Prayers of the People

Lord's Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Prayer Response Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus UMH 349

Turn Your eyes upon Jesus,
look full in his wonderful face,
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim
in the light of his glory and grace.

Growing in Christ

Preparation for giving:

L: Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Let us give with joyful hearts.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving:

O God, we have already received an abundance of your "good measure." Bless the gifts, tithes and offerings we now return to you. Multiply them and use them to build your kingdom on the earth. We thank you for your kindness to us, for your desire to be in relationship with us, for your son Jesus, the Christ. You are our reason for being. You are our light and our life. Amen.

Luke 24:44-53

Passages for Lectio Divina:

You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. John 15:16-17 NRSV

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:12-13

As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. John 15:9-11
